From 1886, the vessel operated on the river passage service between Hong Kong and Canton (now Guangzhou), which included passage up the Whampoa River. The ship was gutted by fire in 1906, whilst moored at the Canton Steam Wharf in Hong Kong, with the loss of 130 lives.
