Description A two panel byobu
depicting an engaging asymmetrical composition of scholar's rocks and plum blossom tree with darting plovers.
A poetic inference to the arrival of spring, as the plum blossom, a symbol of strength and endurance, blooms before the final winter snows have thawed. The painting is skillfully rendered with the artist exhibiting both strong, spontaneous brushwork, as well as elements of fine detail. Artist's dedication of the work written in a calligraphic inscription of 'sosho' or grass writing and two red owner's seals.
Both panels surrounded in a fine silk brocade and black lacquer mounting,
gentle overall antique beige toning characteristic of age.
