10-inch dial with cherub and leaf spandrels, seconds dial, calendar aperture and signed J.Savile London, the latched movement with ring-turned pillars and rack and bell striking, the case with formerly rising hood, moulded cornice and spiral pilasters, the trunk door inset with a lenticle and decorated with shaped panels of bird and flower marquetry in stained bone and woods of contrasting colour on an ebony ground and within an oyster-cut olivewood surround, the crossbanded plinth similarly decorated and raised on a later stepped base and shaped apron,

Condition Report Dial is very dirty, silvering tarnished, hour hand damaged, minute hand replaced.
Movement is extremely dirty, escape wheel and pallets replaced, striking train partially replaced, back cock moved, crutch has old repair and is badly bent, bolt and shutter maintaining power now missing, seat board replaced.
Case Has old restoration, scuffs, marks and minor losses throughout, stepped base to plinth and apron later, hood partially re-built and now with opening door, lacking mouldings to left side, repairs to top and bottom of trunk door. With pendulum and 2 brass-cased weights, winder and case key.

Notes John Saville was the son of another clock maker of the same name who became Free of the Clockmakers' Company in 1656. His son followed suit in 1678 and?is recorded as having had two apprentices, James Toms and John Ellwood.
