Description A pair of Sèvres Royal portrait busts of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette
circa 1786-88?
after Louis-Simon Boizot, modelled by Le Riche,?bust length, truncated and draped on spreading socle bases, the bust of the King incised with?LR 21, the bust of the Queen incised with 15 LR, on later gilt-metal mounted green-painted marble bases
38 cm. (53.5cm. including base) high (Louis XVI); 41 cm. high (56.5cm. including base) high (Marie-Antoinette)

Condition Report Marie Antoinette: a fractured chip to the end of the drapery on the left handside of the model. Minor chipping to the lower front left corner of base and upper right corner of base. Scattered firing cracks to her hair, the bridge of her nose and her right nostril. A bit grubby and in need of a clean, possibly some small areas of staining between the drapery and socle to the right of the figure. The King Louis XVI: the bow to the left side of the figure is chipped off and missing, firing cracks across his sash. Minute chipping to the edge of the drapery at the back. Three notable firing cracks to the socle. Slightly grubby and in need of cleaning. The bases with minor chipping to the surface, edges and corners as to be expected. Some scratches but overall in good order. 38cm. and 41cm. high (busts); each base 15.5cm. high

Notes Louis-Simon Boizot?(1743-1808) was a leading Parisienne neoclassical sculptor who in 1773 was appointed?Director of the Sculpture Department?at Sèvres.
