Description A pair of George III silver mounted boxwood strung and rosewood crossbanded mahogany serpentine knife boxes

with fitted boxwood strung interiors, the silver escutcheons engraved with the crest of Bowen, on ogee bracket feet
38cm. high, 23cm. wide, 28cm. deep.
Condition Report In country house condition. The mahogany is lovely quality, possibly repolished and dry to the interior. The lids are slightly ill-fitting probably due to shrinkage and repairs to hinges. The sides and back of each exterior with stains old marks and scathes. There are splits and cracks to veneers and constructional joins, notably to the rear right and left proper of each respectively. One ring handle lacking. The silver mounts with abrasions and possibly originally gilt.
