maker's mark A, possibly for John Ashmore, London, 1577
on domed stepped circular base with die-struck ovolo border, the flared beaker-shaped bowl engraved with a band of shaded scrolling foliage within plain strapwork, the underside of the foot and the paten engraved with the initials 'LM', together with?another paten, maker's mark only twice on rim, possibly N, the centre engraved with a fivefold symmetric sand dollar motif within a circle

Condition Report The chalice with a solder repair around the full join of the base of the cup to the stem, otherwise with some light dents and scratches commensurate with age and good engraving and full clear hallmarks; the paten with some dents around the rim, foot slightly pushed into cover causing a crack/split to the underside, maker's mark partially worn, otherwise good set of hallmarks, engraved with inventory number 'No. 36' The paten with a dent to the rim and some lighter dents and scratches commensurate with age, the underside engraved with inventory number 'No. 38', 59gr, 1oz 14dwt
