Description Franz Seraph von Lenbach (German, 1836-1904). Oil on academy board, signed and dated 1893 l.l. Also with early paper label inscribed: "Portrait of Lida Mitchel Fenton by Lenbach, 1893". Also inscribed the same on board's verso, in a later hand. Housed in a gilt and gesso frame. Lida Mitchell Fenton (1873-1903), was of the Mitchell & Rammelsburg family of Cincinnati, who acquired enormous wealth during the industrial era as furniture makers. It stands to reason that the portrait would have been commissioned from Von Lenbach, given his reputation in the area of portraiture of notables, and also given the penchant among wealthy American families to make the Grand Tour. An exceedingly well known Tiffany Glass window, dubbed the "Lida Mitchell Fenton Window", is currently in the Collection of the Cincinnati Art Museum.
22" diameter (sight), 32" x 29" (framed).
