Description George Gibson (1904 - 2001) Scotland. Watercolor on Paper. Measure 14 3/4"in H x 10"in W and 22 1/2"in H x 18 1/2"in W with frame. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, George Gibson was educated at Edinburgh College of Art in Glasgow and at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. He was a frequent painting companion of Emil Kosa. In 1934, Gibson began a thirty-five year career with Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios and became director of the scene department. He developed colossal, dramatic backdrops for movies such as "Brigadoon," "The Wizard of Oz," and "Oklahoma." However, his watercolors of life around him were of a more traditional size, and he won over 50 awards for his painting excellence.
