Description Yomut Ensi or Small rug, Turkmenistan, mid-19th century. In Yomut weaving small rugs like this one are reported to have been used as ensis to cover the door opening to the yurt. The more conventional type displays a "hachli" pattern of two crossed axes which divide the field into four compartments. The field design here consists of numerous ascending ashik blossoms with vigorously serrated leaves all attached to stems. Sundry totemic devices appear in the elems of this unusual glimpse of Yomut weaving tradition. Size: 4'0'' x 4'5'' (122 x 135 cm). Weight: 6 lbs. Material: wool pile, wool warp, wool weft.
