A handsome Roman bronze bust of the God Sol, c. 1st – 2nd Century AD, the Roman solar deity, also known as the Greek Helios and often identified with Apollo. The bronze antefix is in beautiful style with sensitive features, his flowing locks surmounted by the characteristic radiate crown which became a feature atop the head of the Roman emperor on the coinage of the 3rd Century and beyond. H: 2 3/5 in (6.9cm). Nice even brown patina and custom antique towered base. Ex collection of William Major Tedder.
