MY SELF
Ode to 'Love And Peace'
My bodice being Vermillion
Would cheer the heart of a Peer
Or even Vermeer, who indeed
Was of Delft
But being MY SELF a true Balinese
I've Dignity-plus; my mien and gait are
Gallantly-langourous,
Perhaps due to carrying fruits, bantens n' Elves on my head crowned by a Towel-o'-rags
Which my deft hands transform into a Turban-like
Lore.
In my hands I pet and cajole a White Dove,
Symbol of tenderness, Love and
Much saught-afters:
Peace.
Yet, do I look askance,
For compositionally Blanco requires it,
And like a good deft Model I . Give
But also, remember, we Baliense, when shy
Or Embarassed,
Always Will askance with-the-look;
Its evasive, its bright, and delights the eye of
The Holder of this
Painting: John Chirgwin
Who beholds my Balinese self
Be-bodiced by millions of threads
Of Vermillion, that go to comprise (not only my bodice)
But Self!
AN ESSAY
Take an Islandl its supposed to be surrounded by water. True of
most Islands; but the Bali of "Blanco" is peopled by-
THE "BIG" "B"
BUMPS
BUBAS
N'
BANGLES
PLENTY of feeling, good to the touch either one ..
The Bump, the Buba, or Bangle.
Would would an EARPLUG be in Bali? THAT is not the question that IS the bangle thrust thru the lobe of the ear of a Miden of Bali sooooo fair, named perhaps GEM Smaka? Or could it be Paka?
TJEMPAKA The White Flower
She lacks not the firmness, the slimness, the fabulous Beauty of Indra, She floats in Grace, without being fastened together by oooodles of lace, yet supported way above by SANSKRIT letters that weave a tapestry of – EXOTIC design.
Put them all together the FRAME, The Maiden, THE BUBA (Don't worry abt the Island) .. IT can't float away, its there to stay, like a Stay in her corset down under the Buba, and .
Holding fast to-it-all like a fulcrum lies the Village of Ubud or is it a den? Denisens now live there that corrupt and freighten the Devils of Bali out of their wits with their Arti-Crafts (and it ain't NO HAY).
Now, for the highest peak of them all:
ITS found in
TJAMPUAN
Where the Daughter, The Wife, The Son and The Holy Ghost dwell, (not reside) BLANCO as resident, takes the part of a President and dents the Island with
ART
that is Highest.
Bali, November 17th, 1978

Bonhams is pleased to present a splendid collection of works by Antonio Blanco from the estate of John Chirgwin, a friend, collector and patron of the artist in the heydays of the 1970s in Bali.
The collection embraces both the visual and literary output of the prolific artist who came to live in Bali from the early 1950s. The Chirgwin collection comprises of six lots by Antonio Blanco and a rare painted map of Bali on canvas painted by I Wayan Turun and fitted in an iconic frame designed and produced under the direction of Antonio Blanco. Presented here is a private collection of works that reveals the artist's diverse and deep breadth of knowledge of world art, culture and history, melded with his intimate sensibility.
The bounteous and extravagant artistic vision of Antonio Blanco is incomparable. Of Spanish descent, Blanco revelled in the fact that he was spiritually close to Joan Miro and Salvador Dali. Having settled in Bali from 1952 onwards after he was gifted a piece of land in Campuan, Ubud by the king of Ubud, and married with the dancer Ni Ronji, he fashioned himself as an inspired aristocrat, steeped in artistic and cultural knowledge.
In works such as Woman Bearing Fruits, Eve & The Apple and A Warm Day in Bali, Blanco imbued figures with sensual potential, at once desirous and desirable. His mood and imageries are playful and cheeky, passionate but never irascible and rarely veering into vulgarity.
Blanco lived and worked in Ubud till his passing in 1999. His oeuvre was consistent in the more than four decades he lived and worked in his adopted home of Bali, Indonesia. Surrounded by lush gardens, rice fields and with a banyan tree standing over his family's temple, Antonio Blanco ceaselessly painted his muses, both real and fantasied.
A Poem, Myself – Ode to Love and Peace, and A Letter, Bali of Blanco, comprises of two literary works composed, type-written and then framed by Blanco, presenting an extremely rare occasion to be able to acquire a work that is highly representative of the philosophy and aesthetic dimension of Antonio Blanco the man and the artist.
