Attr: Robert Houdin Glass Dial Mystery Clock. 5 in. double plate glass dial, the fixed front plate has reverse painted black Roman hour numerals, gilt arrow pointer hand fixed to the rear glass plate which rotates, driven by gears on its outer edge contained in the brass bezel. The dial sits on gilt bronze filigree molded arms raising up from the center stem containing additional gears and arms connecting to the escapement of the movement, the bronze base has a serpentine form with sphinxes flanking a column over an applied floral basket mount. Round French brass silk thread movement signed "Henry Marc, Paris" and "Brevet D'Invention" trade mark, has an hour strike on a bell in the base.
