The high quality figural bronze case depicts a scene from the popular 1806 ballet titled "le Volage Fixe" by Louis Duport at the Theater of the Opera; the scene depicts an allegory of love when the butterflies "fickle" path was fixed or guided by love, the love of the nymph Chloris. The female figure to the right is dressed in classical robes, standing on a footstool and reaching up to the butterfly on the floral finial of a glass urn on the clock tower, case is of fine quality and nice condition with no breaks or damage. 4 in. porcelain dial is signed Dubuc, has black Roman hour numerals and blued open moon hands, typical round brass silk thread spring driven movement with half hour strike on a bell.
