General Sir Garnet Wolseley 1833–1913.
He served in the British Army from 1852 and became an admired and influential general. He had a central role in modernizing the British army and served many places in the British empire. In 1882 he served in Egypt ending a nationalist uprising. He stayed in Egypt and headed a rescue attempt for General Charles “Chinese” Gordon and Egyptian forces at Khartoum in 1884–85, an attempt that failed.
