Basin from the Fars region. Brass with engraved decoration and inlaid with black paste, with small remnants of silver. Iran, Fars, 14th century. Height: 11 cm Diameter: 22.5 cm This brass heap is typical of the production of precious metal objects in the 14th century in the Fars region. The body is decorated with large calligraphic medallions (formulas of blessings to the owner) alternating with medallions decorated with figures. The base is engraved with mandorla, arabesque and fleuron motifs. The interior is engraved with fishes radiating out from a central rose window. A basin from the same period with similar decoration is in the Metropolitan Museum in New York under inventory number 41.148.
