Small sentoku vase, taiko-shaped body, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912 )The circular neck and foot, as well as the rim are chased and inlaid in gold and silver hirazogan with a floral design. Both sides are partly chiseled in kakiribori and inlaid in takazogan on one side with a craftsman holding a chisel in his hand and sitting near a mallet, seemingly terrified by his carving of a young woman coming to life. On the other side is a young courtesan wrapping a furoshiki around Fukurokuju's skull, recognizable by his oversized head, while he lies on his stomach playing with a cat.
