:滋園仁兄大人正清輝迤麗上東墻笑啓庭牎納晩涼??露蛍飛不定夜深花気入簾香於京師作À appreciation of my honorable elder brother, Ziyuan. The brightness of the scene is so clear that she is on the eastern wall, smiling as she opens the windows of the garden to welcome the cool of the evening. Dew-covered fireflies fly indeterminately, and the scent of flowers penetrates the curtain late at night. Executed in the capital. And Ma Shaoxuan's signature 馬少宣 followed by the xuan sealHeight : 6.3 cmRose quartz stopper .
The mere existence of black ink outlines forming the plants and insects and then the use of blue for the butterfly's wings and white to form some flowers, make us think that this bottle was probably not finished by the artist. The green palette has not been applied.
Nantian L'ancien is the artist name of Yun Shouping - 惲壽平 (1633-1690), a famous painter of flowers, bamboo, animals and insects, but also a poet and calligrapher of the 17th century. His work had a real influence on Ma Shaoxuan especially in combining painted motifs and calligraphy in his snuff boxes.
