Wood and glass display box for a Qin, China, late Qing period, 20th centuryThe beige silk display base shows the hollow places where the qin was held, it is lined with polychrome silk with stylized floral decoration. The openwork base is carved with stylized kui, magnolia flowers, interlacing foliage and bats. The lid of the wooden storage box bears the inscriptions: 潞琴 (Lùqín) Qin, a plucked lute from Shanxi province that may have come from the workshops of Lu Jianwang, a famous qin maker as late as the Qing dynasty, as well as 第百肆拾陸號 養寿園主人鑑蔵 陶斉題- 146th piece in the collection of the "Master of the Garden of Beneficial Longevity. 130 x 30 x 27 cmThis
is Marshal Yuan Shikai (1859-1916) who resided in this 200 mu garden, located in Henan province near Anyang between 1909 and 1911, and reigned between December 1915 and March 1916 as the Hongxian Emperor 洪宪.
