Large porcelain baluster vase decorated in blue underglaze and white enamel and eggplant with hydrangea in their foliage. On the back, the mark of the workshop of Makuzu Kozan (1842-1916). (Chipping at the foot). Height : 64,5 cm Wooden base. Coming from a long line of Kyoto potters, Makuzu Kozan founded his workshop in 1871, the Makuzu kiln, specializing in export porcelain. He was appointed imperial artist in 1896 and was one of the major potters of the Meiji period (1868-1912). After his death in 1916, his workshop continued until the 1950s.
