A Chinese cinnabar lacquer of circular form, the cover and base finely carved throughout, the top depicting a landscape with scholar and children amongst mountain, trees and river in relief, the sides of the cover and base decorated with a circular band of bats and a band of leaves on foliate ground, having a round foot decorated with cloud motifs. Late Qing period, 19th century, 23cm diam. and 12cm high. Small chips inside and tiny area of loose on the surface commensurate with age and use.
