Grey jade pebble carved as a squatting toad
Chinese, late Ming period
the well carved figure with black fissures, and with mushroom or fruit held in its mouth, 7cm x 5cm
Note- a similar grey pebble attributed to the Tang period of a reclining horse is illustrated in 'Chinese Jade Animals' published by Hong Kong Museum of Art 1996.
