Four fold huanghuali screen
Chinese, 19th Century
each panel mounted on lacquer with ivory, bone and stained ivory with scenes of figures and animals on terrace gardens, farming and hunting. The panels are framed and glazed and the frames carved to the top, 183cm x 160cm overall, panels 124cm x 31cm
Provenance: Hazelwood, Shanghai circa 1930, then by descent. (Note. Hazelwood is a large classical property in Shanghai and was designed by Clough Williams-Ellis and is now on the site of the Radisson Xingguo Hotel)
The frame in generally good condition with some marks, the lacquered ground to the panels with wear and some losses
