The elegant, well-modelled face is carved with pendulous earlobes, downcast eyes, and a serene expression. The hair is dressed in fne-ridged waves beneath a foliate crown centred by a fgure of a seated Amitabha Buddha between two foral sprays.

PROVENANCE
By repute, purchased by a European head of state in the 1920s, then acquired by the Loew family in New York City. Marcus Loew (1870-1927) played a key role in the American motion picture industry and was best known for the foundation of Loew’s Theatres and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) flm studio. Loew was inducted to the Walk of Fame in Hollywood with a star on 8 February 1960.
