Catalogue notes: Ko-sometsuke porcelain was porcelain made specifically for the Japanese market at the end of the Ming dynasty. At that time, the tea ceremony was flourishing in Japan and led to a greater demand of Chinese tea wares. As a result, Japanese-taste pieces such as the current lot were produced, thereby creating an aesthetically distinct group of pieces known for their deliberate coarse potting, free and often asymmetric designs.
