Modelled after a bronze form, the vessel with a bulbous body rising to a slender neck and angular rim, the body and the neck are decorated with triple bowstrings. The shoulders are decorated with two fixed-ring taotie masks. In a Japanese wooden box.
Provenance : With Gallery Tanisho, Tokyo, acquired prior to 1993; property from a private Dutch collection.
Catalogue notes: a slightly larger green-glazed hu vase with a figural decoration to the shoulder was sold at Christie's New York, 24 March 2011, The Gordon Collection, lot 1106.
Condition: a few minor shallow chips, the glaze is well-preserved.
