The censer is cast with two upright angular handles and is decorated to the body with three panels of floral sprays, one side inscribed 'Tian di' which may be translated as 'Heaven and earth', and the other side is dated the first month of the thirtieth year of Jiajing. The base with three apertures.
Catalogue notes: compare a rectangular cast-iron censer dated to the twelfth year of Jiajing (1533) was sold at Bonhams San Francisco, 22 February 2009, Soma Estate, lot 3791.
Condition: chip to one leg; the metal with some rusty areas.
