The dish is decorated in gilt with cranes in flight amongst cloud scrolls on an iron-red ground, surrounded by a blue and white petal band. The rim is decorated with a further iron-red band with gilt flowers. The exterior is painted with two floral bands. The base with a 'fugui jiaqi' seal mark in underglaze blue, which may be translated as 'vessel for the rich and honourable'.
Catalogue notes: An iron-red kinrande dish decorated with phoenix bearing a 'fugui jiaqi' mark can be found in the British Museum, London, no. 1937,0716.85, and a green-ground Kinrande bowl with the same seal mark is also in the same museum on loan from the Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art, no. PDF A549.
Condition: expected wear to the enamels and gilding; the rim has been round with associated chips; a few chips to the foot (max. approx. 1 cm.)
