Boxwood, predominantly dark patinated, partly rubbed off due to wearing. Oni dressed in nothing but a tiger skin apron is lying coiled, his head with only one eye visible hidden behind his legs, while his hands try to fight off the beans on his back. The natural Himotoshi suggests a dating circa early 19th century. H.3.6cm. Signed: Masakazu on elliptical cartouche, cf. MCI p. 426 a similar signature depicted on the bottom right. Condition A. Minimal, flattened spot on one toe.
