Height 92 cm; width 188.5 cm; depth 12 cm Depicting phoenix on rocks amongst peonies, a pair of small phoenix as well as two other birds at the foot of rocks. The entire scene on a swastika ground bordered by a frame carved in openwork.
Phoenix (feng) dallying with the peony (chin.: fuguihua) is an auspicious design symbolizing wealth, rank and good fortune (chin. fugui jixiang). This iconography paired with the pannel's format suggests former use as part of a wall covering within a spacious interior.
