Provenance: P.W. van Doorne (1896-1971). Thence by descent. Van Doorne studied law in Amsterdam, where he worked as a lawyer and public prosecutor from 1924. He was also dean of the Dutch Bar Association. Van Doorne started collecting in the 1940s and was a great collector of prints. His collection contained about 3000 prints. In 1947 Van Doorne founded with B. Kist (friend of Escher) and H.C. Molster an association of print amateurs: the Amsterdamsche Prentkring. From 1967 he was chairman of the board of the Rembrandt House. In 1970 an exhibition of his collection of 19th-century French prints took place in the Rijksprentenkabinet in Amsterdam.Literature: 'Leven en werk van M.C.
