The top of a single quarter inch thick Huanghuali panel resting in a rectangular frame perched upon four slightly tapered legs ending in hoof feet. Each side of the table with rounded front stretchers supporting elements of openwork scrolling. PROVENANCE: From the Janet and Richard B. Hobart Collection. This table was purchased in 1923, Peking and has remained in the Hobart family ever since. Hobart Collection established the benchmark for the Chinese antiquities market in the United States at two famous sales conducted at Sotheby’s, New York December 12, 1969 and also in 1970. This collection is now part of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Fogg Museum at Harvard University, the British Museum, and the Asia Society. SIZE: 65-1/2” l x 24” w x 33” h. CONDITION: Slight warping and shrinkage cracks to top panel. Four small dowel holes filled along edge of top panel. Some staining to the wood. Openwork elements with minor repairs and one with loss.
