A CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK BLACK-GROUND JACKET, A GROUP OF EMBROIDERED PANELS AND FRAGMENTS AND THREE SILK SCROLL HANGINGS, EARLY 20TH CENTURY. The jacket embroidered with phoenix, peacocks, butterflies and fruits, within silvered cloud pattern border, with bright blue sleeves embroidered in gold and silver thread with peony and pale-blue lining, all hangings in red silk, dated circa 1935, each with presentation inscriptions or a poem to a teacher on his retirement from his pupils, together with a blue and white silk scroll embroidered with flowers as a Christmas present, a fan cover, a folding purse, a child's black hat and two embroidered fragments. The jacket 93cm long. (6) The jacket (with enamel and white metal toggles). One sleeve with losses and damages, associated tears, the other sleeve with tears and losses. Both arms with tearing all of the way down the fold. Some tearing beneath arms, elsewhere there are a few minor loose threads, some typical wear to lining. The hangings - with some crazing to the inscriptions (these have been painted either gold or silver paint). Some discolouration and fading to pink cotton backing, otherwise typical wear. The blue scroll with Christmas inscription with some wear and fading to border. The folding purse with small holes to blue backing and minor staining. The fan sleeve with some minor loose threads. The child's black hat with minor discolouration to cotton backing. Two embroidered fragments - one with three embroidered roundels worked with figures, a dragon and a phoenix, with loose threads, losses and loose border. The other rectangular fragment with tear at edged and some fraying.
