A LARGE PAIR OF CHINESE PAINTED POTTERY FIGURES OF DANCERS, TL TESTED AS TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907). Each modelled standing with looped and coiffured hair, their features finely painted in black and red, each wearing a long flowing dress with elongated draped sleeves, painted in red and blue with panels of scrolls and leaves, standing on shoes with up turned toes. One with CityU Professional Services Ltd CPS (City University of Hong Kong), Report on Thermoluminescence Authenticity Test estimating that the material was last fired about 1380 years ago and it is consistent with the claimed date of manufacture, dated 21 September 2005. 56cm high.
Provenance: Property of a Lancashire family.
One bearing small drill hole to reverse of dress and head for TL testing. Original remnants of pigment clearly visible throughout each of the figures. The example that has been tested also has chipping to reverse of hem of dress. Each with some further minor chipping to extremities, some typical flaking and losses to paint and surface. No obvious signs of restoration.
