The group is carved in the round with a smiling boy clambering on an elephant, with one hand holding a cane. The wrinkles on the elephant are finely incised. The stone is of a pale tone with russet wrinkles. With a wood stand. Height of the carving without stand: 8.5 cm. Catalogue notes: compare a jade elephant with two boys dated to the Qianlong period (1736-1795) sold at Christie's South Kensington, 8 November 2013, lot 1358, and more recently a slightly smaller (6.2 cm. wide) elephant with three boys sold at Sotheby's Paris, 22 June 2017, lot 107. Condition: Appears to be in overall good condition apart from a tiny nick to the nose of the boy and the tip of his cane. Natural flaw lines to the stone.
