A Chinese Peking glass êrmine red' bowl, Qing Dynasty, probably 19th century, the flared sides everted at the rim and decorated to the exterior in carved relief giving a two-tone effect, with a frieze of two scaly dragons contesting a 'flaming pearl' among dispersed cloud scrolls above a band of crested waves breaking around the base, 19.7cm wide
Provenance: Purchased by the current owner at Sotheby's, London, 12th November, 1979, 2, from the collection of Professor P.H. Plesch and Mrs T. Plesch and prior to this it was in the Henrich Collection.
It was noted in the Sotheby's catalogue that x-ray fluorescence tests showed unusual amounts of lead, arsenic and iron in this piece.
