Nabeshima 18th/19th C Japanese Porcelain Set of 5 Bowls; "Dish with Court Carriage beneath a Cherry Tree". One with an old Japanese Gold Lacquer repair to a glaze chip at mouth edge, one with two chips to mouth edge, one of which has 2 associated short hairlines. Diameter 8 inches (20.3 cm). NOTE: The Metropolitan Museum of Art has another plate from this set #93.3.16 in the same size and also dated 1770-1800; the whole set was originally owned by Captain Frank Brinkley , Tokyo; sold to Charles Stewart Smith, New York (1893; donated to MMA).
