Khmer. Baphuon style. 11th c. Sandstone with dark patina. The finely pleated sampot is drawn in an elegant bow high on both hips. It is knotted at the front and falls from here into a fish tail fold. Shortly below the hips it is gathered by a wide belt. The body of the goddess is shown as a young, sensual woman who conveys great vitality and freshness. The fragment tapers elegantly downwards and appears as a masterpiece of the typically slender and graceful baphuon style. Height 44.5cm. Condition B.
