This important private collection of works includes 19 lots of classical and modern Chinese paintings. Carefully assembled primarily during the late 1960s and early 1970s from artists and dealers across Hong Kong and London, this collection is a testimony to the friendship between artists and patrons and the respect for traditional Chinese art that the Chinese diaspora still holds. The collection accompanied its late owner to different corners of the world, finally settling in Singapore, where it has remained for almost half a century. Being an extremely private man, the collector never showed any of these works publicly. In offering the collection, the family hopes one can appreciate the love and care that was devoted to the assemblage of the works.
此輯重要私人珍藏,涵十九件中國古代及近現代書畫,主要於上世紀六十年代末七十年代初悉心蒐集而成。彼時藏家往來香港、倫敦兩地,與當地藝壇雅士與書畫商往還頻仍,不僅存留一段畫家與收藏家之間的雅緣佳話,亦見證了海外華人對傳統書畫之推崇歷劫不衰。本輯珍藏曾隨藏家遷游四海,幾經輾轉,最終落腳星洲近半世紀。藏家生性低調,所藏生前從未示人。如今其人駕鶴西遊,所謂欣於所遇,暫得於己,不外乎此。其家人冀透過本次拍賣,令仝好分享他為此所傾注的心血與熱愛。

羅聘 叢竹圖 水墨紙本 立軸 一七五八年作
款識:愁來白髮三千丈,戲掃清風五百竿。可有既奴知此意,時來江上弄清寒。戊寅(1758)夏六月,花之寺僧兩峯遯夫羅聘寫。
鈐印:兩峯、如竹箭之有筠也
藏印:惟庚寅吾以降肇錫余以嘉名
包首題簽:叢竹圖。花之寺僧羅兩峯筆。王偉立藏。
註:王偉立介紹,見編號120。據《揚州八怪現存畫目》(王鳳珠、周積寅編,江蘇美術出版社,1991年6月)及《揚州八怪書畫年表》(王鳳珠、周積寅編,江蘇美術出版社,1992年12月)兩書資料,海內外公私收藏羅聘作品六百餘件,署年款者最早為「乾隆二十三年戊寅(1758)」之〈梅花圖軸〉,現藏上海博物館,約五尺整紙,寫於灑金箋。本幅作於同年荷月,時兩峰歸於冬心門下僅年餘,幽篁奇石,取法梅道人,以六尺巨幅揮灑佈局,氣象森然,筆下並無稚氣。兩峰為「八怪」中最年幼者,而能後來居上,於此似見端倪。無怪其故後六十年,秦祖永於《桐蔭論畫》中推兩峰畫為神品,謂「筆情古逸,思致淵雅,深得冬心翁神髓。梅蘭墨竹,均極超妙,古趣盎然;人物佛像,尤奇而不詭於正,真高流逸墨,非尋常畫史所能窺其涯涘也。
