A rare marble-glazed bowl Of rounded form, the sides rising to a wide rim, entirely covered in a cream and brick marble glaze, except from the foot rim which is unglazed, the inside with five spur-marks. Period: Northern Song - Jin Dynasty (960 - 1234). Diameter: 14.5 cm.
There is a Cizhou bowl with a similar glaze and dated to the Song Dynasty is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue The Classic Age of Chinese Ceramics, An Exhibition of Song Treasures from the Linyushanren Collection, Hong Kong, New York, London, 22 November 2012 - 14 May 2013, p.118, no.44.
Marble glaze bowls were produced in Henan province in the 10th and 11th centuries. The effect produced by twining together brown and white clay, which is then pressed over a mold.
