Three porcelain plaques Each of rectangular form and exquisitely painted in delicate fencai enamels; one with a bird perching on a branch above a large peony bloom issuing from the rocks below; one with a crane balancing on the boughs of a gnarled pine tree; and one with a hummingbird beneath a pink lotus bloom, perching on a stem; all with wood backing, signed Cheng Yiting. Period: 20th century. Measurements: 106 x 29 cm, exclusive of frame: 80 x 20 cm.
The meticulous style in which these panels are painted is known as ‘Gongbai’, which derives from ‘Gong Jin’, or ‘tidy’.

He and the other members, Wang Qi, Wang Dafan, Deng Bishan, Xu Zhongnan, Weng Yeiting, Tian Hexian and Liu Yucen, met once per lunar month, on the evening of the full moon. In 1911, Cheng Yiting attended the Jiangxi Ceramics School in Poyang to study painting with Zhang Xiogeng, before moving to Shanghai and becoming a pupil of Cheng Zhang (1869 - 1938) of the Zhe School.
