An Outstanding Rare and Important Antique 14kt Gold Bellport Fire Dept 1909 Dedication Badge Pin Brooch to Major W. H. Langley, circa 1909, verso engraved, "Presented -to- Major W. H. Langley - by the - Bellport Fire Dep't Nov 12 1908" stamped, "(C) B 14k", front features a high relief fire badge with a spread wings eagle crest, flower foliate and sun burst surround the the hook, ladder, fire horn, and helmet adorned center.
BACKGROUND:
- A little google search brought up and interesting 1909 New York Times Article mentioning Major W. H. Langley and friend landing 42 bass while fishing in Artist Lake just north of Patchogue.
- The Brooklyn Daily Eagle Mentions, "LANGLEY TO GO TO FLORIDA. Bellport, L. I., November 12 Major W. H. Langley, a prominent resident of this place and Brooklyn, will sail on the 16th for his winter home in Florida, going in his yacht Comet III, In which he cruises the Southern waters every winter. Major Langley spends the summer at his beautiful estate here, "Old Ken-tuck." He Is a member of the Bellport Fire Department and takes an active interest in local matters of Improvement.
- Another 1914 Article in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle is discussing a show and mentions, "here were many prominent people ln the boxes, one party being that of Regis H. Post of Bayport, ex-Governor of Porto Rico, and another, John Mason, the actor, who has a summer home at Bayport; Major W. H. Langley of Brooklyn and Bellport"
