Rare hand made Kashmir shawl from the early 19th century. The unusual red and purple paisley shawl has a black center medallion that is signed by the maker in white thread. The completely hand pieced and hand sewn shawl features lavender coloration rarely seen in shawls of this kind. The handmade shawl is accompanied by a very old handwritten note that reads, Genuine camel hair shawl from the Kashmir Valley India. Grandmother Foster sent to London and paid $1,000.00 in gold for it in 1853. The treasured family textile was very well cared for and is in remarkably good condition. Measures 75 x 75 inches.
