Acquired from the estate of Josephine Baker (1906-1975) directly from her son, Jean-Claude Baker (1944-2015) owner of Chez Josephine in New York City. Jean-Claude inherited many items from his mother after she passed away and the early wrought iron window grate grill may have come from her 15th century French castle the Chateau des Milandes in Dordogne, France. The French early hand forged architectural wrought iron window grate is heavy and weighs approximately 53 pounds. It is in good condition with typical paint loss and rust from age. Measures 53 inches high x 32 inches wide. Jean-Claude Baker (one of Josephine's adopted Rainbow tribe children), was the flamboyant restaurateur who created the popular Manhattan nightspot Chez Josephine in honor of his mother. Included with the window grate, is an original Chez Josephine restaurant poster that measures 26 inches high by 18 inches wide.
