Description: Gouache on illustration board. Housed in a contemporary wood frame matted under glass. Unsigned. Note: At age 15, Virginia native Harry Baker traveled West and settled in Shawnee, Kansas. Influenced by the success of Frederick Remington, Baker moved to Oklahoma City in the heart of Indian Territory. His work eventually caught the attention of Eastern publishing companies and his career as an illustrator began. After seeking formal art training in Paris, Baker returned in 1906 and became a full-time artist and illustrator of books and magazines. He studied at the New York School of Fine Art as a protege of Frank Parsons. Baker taught life drawing at the New York School, which later became known as the Parsons School of Design, until his death in 1941. Childless, the contents of his studio were bequeathed to his landlord. SIZE: 21-1/2" x 14-1/2".
