Description: Second half 19th century, American. The dressing screen surmounted by flame finials and engaged horizontal colonnettes carved with water leaves, the center-most panel with ceramic roundel of a putti in flight above a frieze with circassian walnut insert panel. Each section hinged and mounted with a paint-decorated insert of 18th century courting scenes, the reverse lined with brocade fabric. The library or writing table with rectangular top and burgundy tooled leather inset writing surface within a burled walnut border and rounded, molded edge above the apron, fitted with a pair of aligned drawers on a carved trestle base. The end supports centering a Classical carved urn joined by a baluster- and reel-turned central stretcher on outswept molded legs raised on casters. The chair with pierced and crenelated crest rail above the padded back, joined to downswept hip supports, centering the trapezoidal over-upholstered seat. Raised on ring-turned cylindrical tapering legs, the rear legs curved terminating in original porcelain casters. SIZE: Screen: 53-1/2" h x 59" l (overall). Table 29" h x 48" w x 27-1/2" d. Chair: 37" h (back), 17" h (seat). CONDITION: The screen with original, untouched surface. Painted panels intact. Normal and expected light abrasion and in-use wear. Very good overall. Writing table with clean surface. Leather top appears original. Burl walnut trim original with minor cosmetic repairs, good overall. Chair has been repolished, frame restored and tightened. Newly re-upholstered pale yellow-gold brocade with rows of pale blue floral designs. Very good overall. 52874-4
