In 1956, Polígrafa in Barcelona published the present portfolio ‘Les Essències de la Terra’ that comprises including two title sheets ten prints, partly in colors on double sheets, two prints on single sheets in black and one print on the cover. Together with the justification sheet and seven double sheets with texts from Catalan literature they are contained in an orange cloth portfolio printed in black and a likewise orange cloth portfolio. This is a copy from the standard edition of 1,000 copies.
Condition:
The sheets are very faintly time-stained and bear slight signs of wear. Overall they are in good condition. The box is slightly soiled and bumped. Apart from that the portfolio is overall in good condition. The double sheets measure each 49 x 74.3 cm, the single sheets 49 x 37.2 cm. The dimensions of the portfolio are 53.5 x 41 x 4 cm.
Joan Miró (1893-1983)
Miró was born in Barcelona where he grew up and started his artistic studies. He went to the academy La Llotja against his parents’ will who had wanted him to work in a more traditional way. He later studied at the Escola d’Art from Francesc Galí and got to know the Fauves and the cubists. In 1920 he moved to Paris where he lived amongst the most creative artists of his time. He got to know Arp, Magritte, Brancusi and Giacometti and exhibited together with Dalí, Tanguy, Meret Oppenheim und Max Ernst in several exhibitions about Dadaism and Surrealism. Miró moved to Mallorca in 1956 where he focused first on sculptures and later on ceramics. (fea)
