The portfolio ‘Les Amours de Cassandere’ illustrated the eponymous collection of poems by the French poet Pierre de Ronsard (1524-1585). It comprised 18 etchings of which 8 were inserted in the text as vignettes. These vignettes were issued in colored copies hors text as a separate edition from which is also the present set.
Condition:
8 of the 16 colored drypoints are barely visible and 8 slightly mottled toned as well as partially minor foxed. 1 sheet (Michler /L?psinger 365, Field 68-6 F) additionally is wavy and water-stained within the image. Another (Michler/L?psinger 368, Field 68-6 H) bears 3 small adhesions of tissue paper in the area of the coloring. All sheets feature occasional mostly unobtrusive creases. Condition and impression is overall good. The original silk-covered folder is overall slightly soiled, the corners are minor bumped. It additionally bears glue remains and stains. The plates measure each ca. 31.7 x 23.8 cm and 14.8 x 11.7 cm resp., the sheets each ca. 38.5 x 28.6 cm. The dimensions of the portfolio are 40 x 31 cm.
Salvador Dalí (1904-1989)

Already during his school days he took private painting and drawing classes and studied from 1922 at the Academia San Fernando in Madrid, but was expelled for disorderly conduct in 1926. In 1929, Dalí joined the Surrealists in Paris and met Gala, his muse and future wife.
