Chinese Early Ming Dynasty porcelain high stem cup in original wooden box. The Chinese Ming Dynasty porcelain bowl potted of shallow vessel, rounded cavetto emerged steep round sides further to flat wide opening, raised on a splayed countersunk tall foot base. The exterior hand-painted with cobalt blue underglaze of winged dragons chasing the centralized flaming pearl amongst fume clouds borne above cresting wavy water and rock mountain. A characteristic ‘heaped and piled effect’, the underglaze cobalt blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy and shading to the design. The interior decorated with flaming pearl enclosed within blue ring conforming the cavetto. The glaze stopping before the foot rim, revealed the pale-creme ground, with orange and grayish firing marks. The receded central under base remain white underglaze. The clay fine and exquisite, the glaze smooth with a moist appearance, the finishing meticulous. The high stem bowl elegantly presented upon the original and perfectly fitted hardwood stand. Fitted unto a deep-blue silk covered hard cushion, with purple metallic ribbon pedestal. All sets within the original slide-lidded hardwood box. Mark on interior, six underglazed blue script -KaiShu- characters, enclosed within double fine rings, XuanDe Reign Period of Great Ming.
