EXTRAORDINARY 16th/17th Century Chinese Ming Dynasty WanLi Emperor Reign Period WuCai porcelain hanging wall vase. Chinese porcelain finely potted unto double gourd shape bottle vase, two conjugated globular body, heavier to the lower, gently rounded to narrow opening. Both bulbous exterior are delicately painted in opaque WuCai design depicted Phoenix borne amidst clouds and many auspicious symbols and motifs. Banded with tropical leaves, Ruyi pendants, and scrolling patterns on rim, body, and foot. The double gourd is a symbol of fertility, being full of seeds. The double gourd also represented a door through which certain people with miraculous powers could enter a parallel paradise. The reversed side and foot rim left unglazed, revealed the cutted edges during the process, with grayish creme-brown ground and dark spots of firing marks. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese GuanYao porcelain Imperial wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, the painting, and the shape. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well drawn, clear, subtle, and distinct. The clay is fine and exquisite, the glaze smooth, brilliant with a moist appearance, the finishing meticulous.
Mark on reversed side, six blue script -KaiShu- characters, enclosed by a rectangular frame border within canopy, WanLi Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty (1572-1620).

PROVENANCE: From The Private Collections of Jean-Pierre Bradley. This special group of items were bought from an estate sale, the consignors were told that these items came from the first wife (pictured) of Jean-Pierre Bradley. Born in France and left in 1936 to become a long time resident from Georgia. A graduate of MIT in Electrical engineering was recruited to be involved in the initial planning of the first US ICBM. Throughout his life he had the opportunity to travel extensively . His travels led him to many foreign countries where he would buy treasures for his beloved wife. These items are believed to be a small part of the treasures he invested in. The Jean-Pierre Bradley's collections can be found from Lot-133 through Lot-174.
