The central medallion well-painted in soft grayish-blue tones with vigorous dragons Band of floral spray bordered along the outer rim. The Chinese Yuan Dynasty charger potted in a shallow body with broad cavetto decorated with a descending vigorous dragon amidst flames enclosed within fine ring conforming the cavetto. The sides band of scrolling tendrils, the conforming exterior with lotus and scrolling twigs. The underside left un-glazed with pale creme base, and remarkable grayish brown firing spots. A characteristic ‘heaped and piled effect’, the underglaze soft blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy and shading to the design.
